Community calls for extra registration days to cover lost ground

Prospective voters at Sing in the Sing Electoral Area of the Wa Municipality have appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to extend the period of registration in the community to cover time lost as a result of the inability of the registration officers to report for work.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Wa on Friday, a spokesman for the people Mr. Mahama Daari, said the registration officers began the second phase of the exercise on April 4 at Sing and registered 79 people before complaining of faulty equipment.

He said the officers left the community for Wa with the excuse of sending the equipment for repairs and have since not returned to the community to continue with the exercise.

“People queued on Thursday and Friday to register but the registrations officers never showed up. The EC should be fair to us and give the community extra days to register to cover the period the officers failed to undertake the exercise”.

Mr. Ali Osman, Wa Municipal Director of the EC said the officers came to see him over the faulty Registration kits and he directed them to see the technician at the regional office of the Commission to rectify the problem but they did not report back.

Mr Osman said he was not aware that the exercise had stalled in the community and gave the assurance that he would get them back to continue with the exercise as soon as possible.
