Two NPP supporters die in accident in Tamale
Two supporters of the New Patriotic Party lost their lives in an accident at Tamale on Friday evening after attending a party rally held in Nalerigu.
The two had attended a rally, which introduced Dr. Mahamud Bawumia to the electorates, as the running mate to the party’s flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo.
The deceased, Alhaji Sawuna, alias Saanyagsi, aged 35 and Zuliaha Abubakar, 32, were riding a motor bike when a petrol tanker, with registration number AS858-11 run into them, killing them on the spot.
Mr. Abudu Abdul Ganiu, the Northern Regional Communication Director of the NPP said the two were returning to Tamale after the party’s activities when the sad event occurred.
Superintendent Godwin Blewushi Cashman, the MTTU Commander in the Northern Region told the GNA that the accident occurred at about 21:48 hours, on the Aboabo road near the inter-section between the West Hospital and Lamashigu.
He said their bodies had been deposited at the West Hospital for autopsy while the driver, who sensed danger, bolted after the accident and abandoned the vehicle later.
He said the military, who came to the scene, took away the petrol tanker to avert attempts by an irate crowd to burn it.
Mr Cashman said efforts are being made to arrest the driver.
