Coalition of Concerned Teachers threaten strike action
The Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) has threatened a nationwide strike action if the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) does not open negotiations with them on their allowances by the end of April.
A statement signed in Kumasi by the Communication Director, Mr King Ali Awudu, said they would boycott the classrooms and would not return until their demands are met.
It said the salary of the teacher remains meager compared to that of other public sector workers saying their only hope as far as the single spine salary structure is concerned is the “Category 2 and 3 allowances.”
The group also complained about distortions in their salaries as well as delays in releasing their pay slips by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.
It called on all teachers to stand together and fight for better conditions of service.
