Ga East Municipal to establish 2000-tonne waste plant
Mr John Kwao Sackey, Municipal Chief Executive of Ga East, on Friday said the Assembly had acquired a 40- hectare land at Damfa to establish Waste Recycling and Resource Recovery Plant (WRRRP).
He said the 2000-tonne per day capacity plant would solve the sanitation problem in the Ga East Municipality and the Greater Accra region as whole.
Mr Sackey said this at a meeting with GBI-HANJER, a waste management company in India that has the technology of processing un-segregated waste into products like compost ‘Green Residue,’ derived fuel, metals and glasses, while plastics are converted into granules.
He said the project would also create employment for the people in the area and help protect the environment.
He said according to the agreement, the Assembly’s duty was to provide the Company with the needed amount of waste daily.
Mr Kwesi Bissi, Country Representative of GBI-HANJER, said the processes taken by the Assemblies in the country to manage waste were very discouraging, adding, “as a Ghanaian, I am very much concerned about the waste management problems in our country”.
