USAID supports five districts with IT tools for community planning

Presentation to Shama DCE

Five districts in Ghana’s Western Region are benefiting from information technology equipment, software and training support from USAID’s Local Governance and Decentralization Programme. This will aid these districts to better plan their towns and communities.

The five districts are Sefwi Wiawso, Prestea Huni Valley, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Tarkwa Nsuaem and Shama, the USAID said in a statement.

They were presented with plotters, invertors, state of the art laptop and desktop computers with accessories, scanners, printers and GPS equipment, as well as software worth $240,000.

At the presentation ceremony to the Shama District, Chief Executive, Enoch Kojo Appiah, thanked USAID for the equipment and promised that the district will take the best care of the equipment.

USAID said it has also invested $15,344 in aerial photographs for these districts to help them spatially identify the locations of various structures within their respective areas.

The US agency expects that the support will also lead to the districts increasing their internally generated funds.
