Establishment of Customary Land Secretariats to be demand-driven

The provision of Customary Land Secretariats under the Land Administration Project (LAP) are now to be demand-driven.

This is because the earlier supply-driven approach failed to elicit the commitment of beneficiaries.

Mrs Christie Bobobee, Administrator of Stool Lands made the point at a seminar for members of the Volta Region House of Chiefs at Ho on  Tuesday.

She explained that the secretariats would only be established where there were no land litigations.

Mrs Bobobee told the Volta Chiefs that the Customary Land Secretariats were not limited to stool lands but also covered lands owned by clans, communities, families and individuals.

She therefore urged the Chiefs to encourage landowners in their traditional areas to come together to establish the Customary Land Secretariats to help bring sanity into traditional land administration with its immense economic and social benefits.
