Police asked to consider ‘Okada’ services in villages
The aspiring Independent Parliamentary Candidate (MP) for Domeabra-Obom in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Isaac Awuku Yibor has appealed to Parliament to consider amending the law that debar motorcycles to be used as commercial transport.
He said motorcycles could assist villages that are not accessible to passenger vehicles and would also go a long way to alleviate the transportation difficulties of the people.
He said the operation of motor cycle transport service popularly called ‘Okada’ also gives job opportunities to the youth.
Mr Awuku Yibor made the call at the celebration of the Hobor Motor Union known as ‘Azonto’.
He however reminded the riders that their operation is not legalised and should therefore be mindful of the way they operate.
Mr Yibor advised them to avoid overspeeding to save the lifespan of their motorcycles and should not carry more passengers than the stipulate number.
