CPP ready for congress
The Convention People’s Party (CPP), is set for its national congress, slated for May, 12, 2012, at Essipon Stadium in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis, in the Western Region.
Mr. Samuel Gordon Etroo, the CPP Regional Chairman, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday that about 3,000 delegates would take part in the election of the party’s flagbearer for Election 2012.
Participants would include 110 regional executives, more than 200 national executives and shadow ministers, of the party.
Mr. Etroo said that preparations at the Essipon Stadium, were complete and accommodation and accreditation for the delegates and journalists were ready.
He assured the country of a peaceful congress, and said “We will come out of congress as a unified party fighting for one purpose.”
Mr Etroo said the CPP would be able to seal a merger deal with the PNC only after a successful congress, and called on the delegates to ensure that the CPP comes out of congress as a strong body ready to take up the reins of government.
Mr. Bright Akwetey, a lawyer and Mr. Abu Sakara are the two main contestants in the race of the party flagbearership.
