Diamond Cement to resume production after power cut

Diamond Cement Ghana Limited (DCGL) will resume production at its Aflao Plant by next week following more than three-weeks shut down due to power supply problems.

The situation has resulted in a shortfall of 120,000 metric tonnes or 2,400,000 bags of cement supply in the market.

This came to light when Mr Henry Ford Kamel, Volta Regional Minister visited the GRIDCO sub-station near Aflao to observe the installation of a new transformer.

On April 26 the transformer at the sub-station got damaged when lightning struck it during a storm.

A source close to the cement company told the GNA during the visit that the company did not suffer any equipment damage.

He said the company would maintain its 1,000 bags or 5,000 tonnes of cement production per day when production resumes.

The Regional Minister commended the GRIDCO management and workers on their efforts to restore power and urged them to maintain the pace of work so that production of cement could resume early.

Mr Adams Hussaini, GRIDCO Technical Manager in charge of its southern network who is leading the installation team, said a team has been mobilized to quicken the pace of work.

He said power had been restored to domestic consumers in Aflao from Ho but that was not enough to power the cement factory.
