Golden Star to start underground mining by 2013
The management of Golden Star Bogoso Prestea Limited (GSBPL) has assured the people of Prestea and its surrounding communities that the company is preparing to begin its underground mining operations soon.
According to the company, about $64 million have been invested in to the Prestea underground mine since it took over from Bogoso Gold Limited (BGL) in March 2002.
Disclosing this at a meeting on Thursday with journalists, youth groups and opinion leaders of Prestea, Mr Jerry Agala, the Acting General Manager of the company, debunked the assertion by some people that the underground mine will not be reactivated.
He said after ten years since GSBPL took over from BGL the people of Prestea have always been on the company to reactivate the underground mine.
Mr Agala said it is expected that by 2013 the Prestea underground mine will be in operation.
