Building contractors in Ghana chart new path for excellence

The National Steering Committee of the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (ABCECG) at the weekend held a two day strategy session in Koforidua to reposition the association to promote excellence in the industry.

The two day session which was also to seek for the interest and growth of members was facilitated by the Chairman of the Technical Committee of ABCECG, Mr Rockson Dogbegah.

The committee arrived at six broad thematic areas that members of the Steering Committee resolved to achieve within the two year term of the new President of the Association Mr Martins Nnuro.

The goals include a strong campaign for the establishment of an independent regulatory body for the construction industry, the constitution of a Contractors Council to be made up of various contractor associations and a re-branding of the association including a facelift for its Secretariat which is currently in a deplorable state.

Other goals are aggressive and regular training for its members to ensure quality delivery of jobs, building bonds with similar building construction organizations in other countries and other relevant international organization for purposes of knowledge and technology transfer.

The rest includes effective use of its website www.buildingconstractorsgh.com to reach out to its members as well as advertise jobs and also point them to relevant opportunities.

The Strategy Session was attended by National Executives including the First Vice President Albert Yankee and Second Vice President Kojo Yankah respectively.

Mr Nnuro stressed on the need to implement the goals to their logical conclusion, saying “there is a rebirth of ABCECG and the signs are clear. For the first time we have had a successful strategic session and the sky is no longer the limit.”

He noted that there were a number of issues militating against the effective delivery of the Ghanaian contractor but added that “through these six thematic areas outlined, we are going to address these concerns effectively, aggressively with professionalism”.
