MTN Foundation allocates GH¢100,000 for academic scholarship package
MTN Foundation has allocated GH¢100,000 as a scholarship package to reward 10 pre-tertiary for their loyalty to the brand following the attainment of 10 million customers landmark.
The aim of the scholarship, dubbed “MTN 10 Million Subscriber Merit Award” is to support 10 brilliant and needy students in the 10 Regions, while encouraging improved essay writing skills among tertiary institution students.
Speaking at the press launch in Accra on Wednesday, Mrs Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive of MTN Foundation, said her outfit would organise a nationwide essay competition from May 23 to June 16, to select students who would benefit for a full academic scholarship through their tertiary education in selected institutions.
She said entrants needed to be between 18-25 years and a pre-tertiary student who had applied for admission in any selected tertiary institution to qualify.
Mrs Lumor said “One winner will be chosen from each of the 10 Regions and will benefit from a financial aid of GH¢10,000 in support of his or her education. A panel of seasoned judges will review the entries and determine the winners. The announcement of the winners will be made in August 2012.”
The prospective contestants are to write an essay on the topic: “How to manage refuse in Ghana while motivating citizens to keep their environment clean.”
MTN Foundation is the corporate social responsibility arm of MTN Ghana. It was established in 2007 and had so far invested more than GH¢7 million into community development projects.
