DVLA told to bring Vehicle Inspection Centres closer to people
Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Greater-Accra Regional Minister, has appealed to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), to consider setting up a vehicle inspection centre in Tema.
Nii Agbo, who made the appeal on Thursday when he paid a working visit to the Tema Regional Office of the DVLA, said residents were going through a lot of hardships and stress, to get their vehicles inspected for registration and road worthiness.
Residents of Tema and its environs, have to travel to any of the four DVLA authorised centres at Oyibi, Weija, Dome-Kwabenya and Kuntunse, to first have their vehicles inspected and certified, before registering them at the DVLA Offices at the Tema Industrial Area.
Nii Afotey-Agbo urged the Authority to create more inspection centres nearer to the doorsteps of the people, to reduce the stress and time wasted in getting vehicles inspected and registered.
“DVLA must create a relaxed system for the people to avoid hardships and discomfort,” he indicated.
Responding, Mr George Afful, Tema Deputy Regional Licensing Officer, explained that even though the four centres have been authorized to do the inspection, commercial vehicles were inspected at the premises of the Tema DVLA.
Mr Afful said only private and government-owned vehicles were expected to go through the inspection at the four designated places.
He, however, gave the assurance that plans were underway to equip the Tema Office to fully carry out all vehicle inspections.
