Delta Airlines to cut flights to Ghana, Liberia

Just two years after launching in Ghana, United Airlines stopped flying direct to Washington DC from Accra in April 2012, and another US airline, Delta Airlines is also cutting its flights from Accra to Atlanta.

Delta Airlines in a statement said it will suspend service between Atlanta and Accra, Ghana, and Monrovia, Liberia in August 2012.

The airline cites “persistently high jet fuel prices and fluctuations in passenger demand” as the reasons.

According to Delta, although the Atlanta flight will be phased out, Delta will increase its weekly frequency from New York to Accra from four flights to five.

“The removal of three Atlanta flights and three to Monrovia cuts the number of Delta weekly flights serving the Ghanaian capital in half. Delta still has the New York routes, which also connect in two days per week to Abuja, Nigeria,” it said.
