Ghana to report Zambia to CAF over police assault of players

The Ghana Football Association  (GFA) says it will make a report to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over an alleged assault of Ghanaian players in Ndola after the World Cup qualifying match against Zambia Saturday June 9, 2012.

The Ghana FA is claiming that Zambian police assaulted three of its players.

The GFA’s Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara told journalists in a post-match press conference that Derek Boateng, Adam Kwarasey and Ben Acheampong were assaulted.

Two of the three players he said were alleged to have been heckled by local police after the game which Zambia won by a lone goal.

Mr. Sannie-Daara says the FA will review the tape of the match to determine what actually happened.

“The judgment is there for all of you to make. You saw what happened on the pitch but we want to put on record that we (have) to view the tapes of what happened after the match and if two of our players Ben Acheampong and Derek Boateng were punched, we will have to take it up to CAF,” he was quoted by Zambian media as saying.

He also accused the Zambian football authorities of denying the Ghana FA officials access to the VIP box. He said they were made to sit with the crowd to watch the match.
