US-based AirTouch Communications said on June 11, 2012  it has sold 1000 units of the company’s X1500 wireless device to Ghanaian owned firm UniCell Ghana limited.

The HomeConnex X1500 wireless device will allow home and office users to receive voice, text and data with no landlines and no computers.

The company says the initial order is for 1,000 units and is expected to be sold to several mobile operators including Airtel, Tigo, Glo and Vodafone.

“Under the terms of our agreement with our distribution partner UniCell, we collectively expect to sell our product to several mobile operators, including Airtel, Tigo, Glo and Vodafone,” Hide Kanakubo, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AirTouch said in a statement.

This is because UniCell, which offers telecommunications solutions to individuals and businesses in Ghana has working relationships with Vodafone, Airtel, Tigo, and Glo and has been providing fixed-based cellular phones for over five years.

According to AirTouch, UniCell will be responsible for the installation of the devices in both the homes and offices of their customers in several ECOWAS countries.

The AirTouch company provides telecoms solutions, particularly in countries where cost and geography have limited the deployment of landlines.
