Mfantsiman Girls to make health insurance condition for admission
The Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School would make the acquisition of a Health Insurance Policy one of the conditions for admission into its boarding house from the 2012/2013 academic year.
Ms Charlotte A. Addo, headmistress of the School, said the School would no longer continue to spend on the health needs of the students because it was draining its resources.
The headmistress’ statement followed a submission by Dr Derrick Akyeampong Bonsu, Medical Superintendent of Saltpond Municipal Hospital, about the importance of health insurance to people who lived far away from their bread winners.
Ms Addo, who was addressing a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting, said house mistresses would inspect the cards of continuing students and urged parents and guardians to keep in mind dates for renewing the cards to avoid casualties.
Mrs Theodora Froko, the Chairperson of the PTA, said teachers must be motivated to enable them to meet the challenges posed by preparing two different groups of students to write their final examination in the same year.
She was referring to the current students in form three and their counterparts in form four writing the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination in 2013.
