ECOWAS Games: Ghana wins gold in women’s 1500m

Youngster Agnes Abu added to Ghana’s medal haul at the ongoing Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Games by winning gold in the 1500m women’s event on Tuesday at the El-Wak Stadium, Accra.

Abu raised aloft the flag of Ghana in the race which saw Nigeria finish in second and third places.

She finished at 4:42:32secs. ahead of Shimnenge Agber and Aminat Olawora who ended the race at 4:42:34secs. and 4:44:81secs. respectively.

Ghanaian medal hope Lydia Atta Afia Mato, winner of the 2011 Milo Marathon (women’s event) settled for the fourth position with a time of 4:46:49ssecs.

In the Javelin event, Atsu Nyamadi of Ghana won silver behind Nigerian Isfa Ferdinand who won the gold with Senegalese Diedhiou Sadibou winning the bronze.
