Remittances through Ghana banks hit $5.9b

Ghana recorded an amount of $5.9 billion as inward remittances through the banks end of April 2012.

The recorded remittances represented a year-on-year growth of 7.5%, according to a Bank of Ghana (BoG) statement released last week.

Of the total amount, $622.3 million were accrued to individuals, recording a growth of 6.6% over the same period in 2011, the central bank said.

Most remittances are sent by Ghanaians living abroad.
