Government assures fishermen of sufficient premix fuel
Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Deputy Minister for Energy in-charge of Petroleum, has assured fishermen in the country of sufficient premix fuel for this year’s fishing season.
He said plans had been instituted to ensure that enough premix fuel was made available for operators in the fisheries sector.
A statement issued by the Ministry in Accra, said Mr Buah gave the assurance when members of the National Premix Committee (NPC) and stakeholders in the premix sector called on him at the Ministry.
He tasked the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to design safety standards to be followed by local landing beach committees to help prevent accidents.
Mr Buah expressed regret and sympathy to the victims of the recent premix explosion which claimed some lives at the Nzema East District in the Western Region.
He advised the NPA to submit their requests for increase in their weekly allocation to Mr John Sapara-Grant, Distribution Manager of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), for discussion with the Management.
Mr Kwaku Nicol, Chairman of NPC, said they expected a bumper harvest this season and urged the Sector Minister to increase the volume of premix fuel delivered to them during this fishing season.
He said the 120 trucks per week should be increased to 150 trucks per week.
