Helicopter crash-lands in Ghana after engine failure

A helicopter carrying some eight persons believed to be workers of mining firm Newmont Gold has crash-landed in Beposo, a Ghanaian town in the Ashanti Region after it experienced an engine malfunction, according to authorities.

No death was recorded. The incident happened June 28, 2012 around 2pm.

State newspaper Daily Graphic’s website reports that the aircraft with registration number SA365C2 was carrying the workers from Kenyasi in the Brong Ahafo Region to Accra when it crash landed at about 2:00pm on a football pitch.

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) who confirmed the incident in a statement attributed the problem to an engine malfunction adding that crew and passengers aboard are “safe”.

Authorities say they are investigating the matter.
