Government donates 200 bags of rice, sugar for Ramadan

The government has presented 100 bags of rice and 100 bags of sugar each (50 kilogrammes) to the Muslim community and traditional authorities in Tamale to mark the beginning of the Ramadan festive season.

Mr Moses Buakri Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister presented the items on behalf of the government to representatives of Muslim groups and traditional authorities at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Tamale, on Friday.

Some of the Muslim groups included the Ahamadiya Muslim Mission and the Anbariya Muslim Group, whilst the traditional authorities are the Gukpena and Dakpema.

Muslims across the country on Friday began a month-long fasting season, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.

Mr Mabengba said Muslims should see the “Ramadan season as the beginning of our lives and a period to turn into new leafs.”

He called on all to be truthful in their endeavour for the progress of humanity.

He used the ceremony to correct the impression that the RCC had for the past three years distanced itself from the Ramadan season, saying, it (RCC) had always been associated with the season.

Alhaji Saeed Moomem, who is in-charge of the Elders of the Ahamadiya Muslim Mission in Tamale, spoke on behalf of the representatives thanking government for the gesture.
