NDC calls on members to respect principles of democracy
The Eastern Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng, has appealed to the Member of Parliament(MP) for Lower Manya, Mr Michael Teye Nyawonu to respect the democratic principles of the party.
He said in 1996, Mr Nyawonu defeated the then incumbent MP for the constituency, Major Ted Tetteh at the primaries with a difference of two votes and Major Tetteh ‘graciously’ accepted the results and supported Mr Nyawonu to win the constituency seat.
Mr Boateng said this time around, Mr Nyawonu lost at the party’s primaries with a difference of 26 votes to Mr Ebenezer Terlabi and has refused to accept the results of the primaries, threatening to campaign as an independent candidate for the constituency in the forthcoming 2012 elections.
He called on party members who lost at the primaries to accept the results and support the party’s representatives to enable them win the 2012 elections.
Mr Boateng was speaking at a zonal rally organized by the regional branch of the party for members in the Upper Manya, Lower Manya, Yilo and Asuogyaman constituencies at Agomanya.
The National Women’s Organizer of the party, Ms Anita Dosooso appealed to all members and sympathizers of the party who had grievances to set aside their grievances and joined the campaign for the party to win the 2012 elections.
Mr Lee Ocran, Minister for Education said beginning September this year, government would implement the provision of one laptop computer per teacher programme.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Victor Smith, refuted the allegation that the Region had been denied development projects because the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo comes from the Eastern region.
He said the Region has received its fair share of the national cake and promised to ensure that all communities within the Region received its share of the developmental programme.
The Parliamentary Candidate of the Party for the Lower Manya Constituency for the 2012 Elections, Mr Ebenezer Terlabi, assured the people of his readiness to represent them parliament to help promote development in the area.
The parliamentary candidates for the various constituencies in the area were later introduced to the people.
