KNUST Vice Chancellor advocates human resource development
Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has reiterated the need for the nation to take her human resource development seriously.
He said there could be no better investment than in human resource development, explaining that the nation was in dire need of well-trained resource persons capable of spearheading technological advancement and also address socio-economic, industrial and infrastructural challenges.
Professor Ellis observed that the nation had the ability to develop and harness the potentials of the people if the right conditions were created to equip the citizenry with the relevant skills and knowledge.
This was contained in a speech read on his behalf at the 15th Speech and Prize-giving/Graduation Ceremony of the KNUST Junior High School (JHS) in Kumasi.
It was on the theme: “Parental Commitment – a Key Component in Nation Building.”
A total of 307 students who graduated were given certificates, while deserving staff and other personalities were also awarded for their contributions to the school’s overall development.
Professor Ellis said the university authorities would ensure that the JHS provided vibrant programmes that would lead to the holistic development of the students.
The school, he said, would seek to train the “heart, brain and hands of students in order to make them more responsible and law-abiding in future”.
Mrs Mary S. Kyere, Headmistress, enumerated the gains made by the school in the academic and sports fields, saying the facility would work assiduously to maintain the high standards set since its establishment.
