Student jailed eight months for stealing
A Cape Coast Magistrate court on Friday sentenced Cris Modi, a 29 year old remedial student from Garu in the Upper East Region to eight months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing.
Modi was charged for stealing three mobile phones, two modems, a jeans jacket and a sum of GH¢20 belonging to two students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
He pleaded guilty and was in addition fined GH¢600.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Charles Anku told the court presided over by Mrs. Mercy Adei-Kotei that, on Monday July 23, this year, Rita Yeboah and Razak Rafiq, the owners of the items placed their bags outside one of the lecture halls at the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) building of UCC to enable them to write their end of semester examination.
He said as the exam was on- going, Modi, who claimed he went to the centre to purchase admission forms to enroll for the distance education programme, stole the two bags from the examination centre and headed for the next floor.
Chief Inspector Anku said a student saw Modi from a distance and notified the security men and other people around, who raised the alarm and he was arrested.
