Hilary Clinton to attend Mills’ funeral
US Secretary of State, Mrs Hilary Clinton will attend the state funeral for the Late President of Ghana, Prof John Atta Mills August 10, 2012.
The state funeral will be held in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.
Mrs Clinton is on a six-nation African tour and the BBC, citing US officials reports August 1, 2012, that her last stop will be Ghana, where she will attend the August 10 state funeral for the country’s late president, John Atta Mills.
This will be her first visit to Ghana since she became the US Secretary of State.
Ghana was originally not part of Mrs Clinton’s 11-day tour. She was visiting Senegal, South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi and South Africa.
Prof Mills died July 24, 2012 in Accra and Mrs Clinton in a message of condolence said “President Mills made a significant contribution to Ghana’s democracy and development, and forged a strong and positive partnership with the United States.”
“…he worked to strengthen his country’s democratic institutions and to expand prosperity for all of its people,” she wrote.
According to Mrs Clinton, Prof Mills promoted regional peace and reinforced Ghana’s reputation as a leader in Africa.
President Mills was a champion for his nation and his loss will be felt around the world, Mrs Clinton stated.
