ActionAid Ghana seeks local funding for projects
ActionAid Ghana, a non-governmental organization, has expressed worry about declining donor support for activities of NGOs in the country and had therefore nurtured the idea of raising local sources of funding to partner government in development.
Mr. Yakubu Mohammed Saani, Deputy Country Director of ActionAid Ghana, said most of the international financiers of NGOs had used the middle-income status achieved by the country and its oil find as reasons to stop supporting NGOs.
He said the shifting away of the international support was placing a huge challenge and difficulties on the activities of the pro-poor institutions whose support for the growth and development of the country could not be underestimated.
Mr. Saani was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Wednesday on the sidelines of a three-day forum organized by ActionAid to interact with its partner organizations for effective coordination of their activities.
The forum was on the theme; “Building effective partnership for improve programme delivery” and brought together partner organizations to deliberate on issues of mutual benefit.
Mr. Saani said the local sources of funding would be generated from individuals, institutions and multi-donors who believe in their project goals.
On the alleged witches, he said ActionAid had been able to form a National Committee on the Alleged Witches who had developed a roadmap for implementation towards the disbandment of the witches’ camps.
Mr. Edward Akapire, Northern Regional Programme Manager of ActionAid, appealed to the partners to share their success stories with sister organizations to enhance their projects.
He noted that the NGO would continue with its educational, women rights and gender advocacy to empower the less privilege and the poor.
