French Embassy assists women at Ningo-Prampram District

Mr Frederic Clavier, French Ambassador in Ghana, has presented a cheque for GH¢37,428 to Global Mamas, an NGO, to enhance the lives of under-employed Ghanaian women in the Ningo-Prampram District.

The assistance was under its annual “Fund for Social Development”(FSD) to suppport small and medium-scale development projects in the country with the provision of 100,000 euros.

This was contained in a statement issued by the French Embassy and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday.

The fund was to help in the training of under-employed women in the textile industry by creating sustainable income opportunities that would lead to financial independence.

Mr Clavier said the FSD was a special programme for NGOs and other Civil Society Organisations that offered financial support to civil society-driven projects.

It targets vulnerable and disadvantaged groups who organise themselves to implement social services or income-generating activities.

Mr Clavier said the assistance would empower women by providing sustainable and fair employment for 23 new women, implementing environmental controls, and positioning Global Mamas to compete in the global textile market.

Global Mamas has three-phases to implement its project, create immediate fair trade employment for 23 women and provide job security for 21 additional women, ensure the site follows fair trade standards and has the least amount of impact on the environment.

It will also position the producers of the Global Mamas network to compete in the global textile market by increasing production capacity while maintaining fixed costs.
