Parliament to scrutinize $77.3m loan deal to build 1000 housing units for Ghana military, police
Reports of various parliamentary committees containing different loan agreements, including a $77.3-million facility for the construction of 1000 housing units for the military and police are expected to be presented to the plenary session of Parliament for scrutiny before approval as the House prepares to rise this week.
The joint report prepared by the Committee on Finance and Works and Housing for the housing units loan is a supplier’s credit agreement between government and the SNECOU Group of Companies (Nigeria). The housing units would be constructed by the SNECOU companies and the State Housing Company (SHC).
Other committee reports to be presented to the House for debate include a Finance Committee’s report for a loan agreement between government and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, the Saudi Fund for Development,the OPEC Fund for International Development and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, totalling $45 million for the co-financing of the Trauma and Acute Care Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
A Finance Committee’s report containing an agreement for amount of €74,880,000 to finance the engineering design and construction of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and other related ancillary works in Accra id also ready including that of a joint Finance and Health Committees’ report containing an agreement for an amount of GH¢55 million between government and the Barclays Bank, among other parties, for the financing of the design, construction and furnishing of seven district hospitals and the provision of an integrated IT system.
Meanwhile, the Adaklu Anyigbe and North Tongu districts and the Ho Municipalily can expect improved water supplies if an €8 million Euro agreement between government and the Raiffeisen Bank International AG, Vienna, Austra, which is ready is approved by the MPs.
