Ghana, China draw in friendly

Ghana’s Black Stars on Wednesday held their Chinese counterparts to a to a 1-1 drawn game in an international friendly at the Shaanxi Province Stadium in Xi’an, China.

The Stars came from behind to share honours with the Wànlǐ Chángchéng in the first ever meeting between the two sides at senior level.

After a barren first half, the hosts shot into the lead through striker Gao Lin who scored from the spot on 57 minutes after the Ghanaians protested against the referee’s decision but to no avail.

Richmond Boakye Yiadom capped his Black Stars debut in grand style with the equaliser on 80 minutes.

Substitute keeper Ernest Sowah came to the rescue of the Stars by saving from the spot after the referee awarded another dubious penalty to the Chinese in the closing stages of the match.

The Stars are scheduled to face Malawi in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on the weekend of September 7-9.

The return leg will be held in Blantyre on the weekend of October 12-14, with the winner qualifying for final tournament fixed for January 19 to 10 February, 2013 in South Africa.
