Ghanaian woman Minister assaulted
The Deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, Hajia Hawawu Boya Gariba was on Sunday attacked at a saloon at Nyohini, a suburb of Tamale.
Even though she escaped unhurt, her dress was ripped-off while portions of the saloon including its furniture were said to have been damaged in the alleged attack.
It took the timely intervention of the police to ensure sanity at the scene where the situation was said to have degenerated into an open confrontation between some sympathisers of the minister and those of her alleged assailant.
At the time of filing the story no arrest had been made yet. According to the minister, “I still do not understand the reason for the attack.”
Hajia Boya explained that she was at the saloon dressing her hair when a young woman whose name she gave as Kande suddenly entered the saloon and without any provocation, hurled abuses at her and begun ripping her dress off. She said it took the intervention of “one of my young men to over-power her.”
She said just after that happening, a group of young men who apparently supported the actions of her assailant appeared at the scene leading to a confrontation between them and her sympathisers. “When I realised the situation was getting out of control, I had to call in the police for protection.”
Calm has however since returned to the area as the police commence investigations into the matter.
