Ho Municipal Assembly elects Presiding Member
The Ho Municipal Assembly Monday elected Mr Stephen Adom as its new Presiding Member.
Mr Adom, 32, a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme, is Assembly Member for Loboli Electoral Area in the Ho Municipality.
Mr Adom, who was sole candidate following the withdrawal of four other candidates secured, 32 ‘yes’ votes as against four ‘no’ votes and one rejected vote from the 37 members, who attended an emergency meeting to elect the Presiding Member.
Mr Adom replaces Mr Mathew Atsrim, now a member of the Ho West District Assembly, which was recently created out of the Ho Municipal Assembly.
While in the Ho Municipal Assembly, Mr Atsrim was also Assembly Member for the Kpedze-Awlime-Todze Electoral Area, now in the newly created Ho West District Assembly.
Before the votes were cast, Mr Isaac Kodobisah, Municipal Chief Executive, said stalemates in the election of a Presiding Member were costly to the Assembly.
He said collaboration and co-operation were the essential ingredients in achieving unity of purpose in the conduct of affairs in the Assembly.
The Assembly failed in its first attempt on August 17, 2012, to elect a new Presiding Member because Mr Adom on two occasions secured one vote less than the 29 votes he needed to secure the mandatory two thirds of the 44 member Assembly.
He promised to provide leadership based on constructive engagements and consensus.
