Funeral for Late Ghana President Atta Mills costs GH¢3.6m – Committee

It cost Ghana GH¢3.6 million to hold the state funeral of the Late President, Prof John Atta Mills who was buried in Accra August 10, 2012, the committee that organised the funeral announced August 27, 2012.

The spending was on hospitality for foreign dignitaries, renovations, printing of brochures, funeral preparations as well as the casket among others, Chairman of the Funeral Planning Committee, Mr Kofi Totobi Quakyi told the press.

According to the Committee, an amount of GH¢2.2 million which came from donations was used to financed the total cost with the State providing the GH¢1.4 million deficit of the cost.

It said the casket cost GH¢4,660.

The report on the funeral has been submitted to the Chief of Staff’s Office at the Presidency and it will undergo auditing, the Committee indicated.

    Who ever came out with this figure should know that in the Akan traditions and customs, you cannot come out with only the expenditure and leave out the Income. The statement of expenses is NOT COMPLETE. Dont fool us!
