40 Awutu-Senya West communities added to national grid
About 40 communities in the Awutu-Senya West District have been connected to the National Electrification Grid under the Self Help Electrification Programme (SHEP).
The communities include Ayensuako, Mfadwen, Nkuadum and Mfadwen Nkwanta, the District Chief Executive, Dr Nuhu Adams, said at a durbar to climax the “Awubia Festival” of the chief and people of Awutu Beraku.
The celebration was under the theme “Peaceful co-existence for accelerated development”
He said the district had also benefited from a number of projects under the GETFund including 37 school buildings and 30 teachers’ quarters.
Dr Adams said the Bawjiase, Bontrase and Senya markets would be given face lifts to enhance the Assembly’s economic viability and that the creation of the district would deepen decentralization and ensure speedy development of the area.
The Member of Parliament for the area, David Nana Larbie, said he had distributed free exercise books and 1,700 mathematical instruments to some schools in the district.
Some 285 brilliant but needy students have been awarded scholarships to continue their education in senior high schools and tertiary institutions.
Nai Abokuadi Wyettey Agyemang, Omanhene of Awutu Traditional Area, appealed to the government to upgrade the Awutu Beraku Health Post to a district hospital.
He thanked the government for creating the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly and appealed to the government to resource the new municipal assembly to enable it to function effectively.
