US returnee shot at Ayifua
Armed robbers on Monday night shot and killed a 57-year old Ghanaian man who was domiciled in the US after his room was broken into at Ayifua, a suburb of Cape Coast.
The victim, Mr. Franklin Houtmond Appiah, returned to the country about a week ago, on vacation but met his untimely death when the armed robbers demanded money from him but he replied that he had no money on him.
According to Chief Superintendent James Acheamfour Amoako, Central Regional Crime Officer, who briefed the GNA, said the Police Patrol team received a distress call at 22.00hrs about an ongoing robbery at a house at Ayifua.
He said by the time the Patrol team got to the scene the armed robbers had bolted
A neighbour told the Police that one of the robbers forcibly entered the room of Mr. Appiah wielding a locally manufactured pistol and demanded money from him but Mr. Appiah told him he had no money and he shot him in the ribs and took to his heels.
Chief Supt. Amoako said some neighbours rushed the victim to the Regional Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
He said the Patrol team intensified its patrol the same night and arrested one Kwame Attah, 30 who was suspected to be part of the robbery gang.
Atta is currently in police custody waiting to be processed for court whilst investigations were ongoing.
