GES announces admission procedures for 2012 computer school placement
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has outlined procedures for ensuring full placement of candidates who have been placed in various Senior High Schools and Technical Institutes (SHS/TIs) under the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
It said this had become necessary because of the complaints from the general public especially candidates, about their inability to access their admission letters after they had accessed information on the schools in which they had been placed after texting the short code 1060 to the telephone networks.
A release issued to the Ghana News Agency, on Friday in Accra said the procedure was made to forestall rejection of schools by candidates, after they had been successfully placed in schools they themselves chose.
It said after the official announcement on the release of the placement result, candidates were to continue texting their index numbers followed by the year of writing the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) examinations to short code 1060 on all networks, to access their placement results.
The release noted that from October 1, 2012 candidates should procure the GES scratch cards on which the directions were printed, to obtain their admission letters from the website at www.myjhsresult.net.
The scratch cards, it said could be obtained from the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), ARB Apex Bank and its network of Rural Banks, SIC –Financial Services Ltd. Head office Accra, Fidelity Bank, and Ghana Post and its Branches
According to the release, between October 1 and 10, 2012 the first batch of admission process would have been completed, and Parents and candidates were therefore requested to contact the Heads of the SHS/TIs immediately they get their admission letters.
“This is because from the October 11 to 15 2012, Heads of the SHS/TIs would be expected to declare vacancies that may exist after the first batch of the admission process, and Supplementary placement would take place by the October 20 2012, to fill all existing vacancies.
It appealed to all parents to exercise patience whilst it distributed the placement list to all Senior High School and Technical Institutes, through the Regional CSSPS Coordinators and the District and Regional Directorates of Education, by September 30, 2012.
“Meanwhile, candidates who wish to confirm the list of schools and programmes chosen should send their index number and year of writing the BECE examination to Short Code 1477. This would also confirm their registration for the BECE with West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC).
It however noted that candidates who could not obtain the scratch cards due to the unavailability of internet facility should contact their Junior High School (JHS) or the District and Regional Directorates of Education for their placement results by Tuesday October 2, 2012.
It entreated parents and candidates to take note of the arrangements to ensure a smooth placement exercise, and call the helpline 0302-777235 for further enquiries and complaints.
