Ghana FA to set up refereeing department

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is considering the set up of a Refereeing Department at its secretariat in line with their commitment to raising the standards of the game.

The establishment of the Refereeing Department constitutes one of the many innovations to hit the local terrain effective the impending season.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, GFA President in his opening address at the Ordinary Congress of the football governing body at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram said the idea will serve a great step towards curbing the menace that has rocked officiating in the various leagues.

The new department will collaborate with the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) and the Referees Appointment Committee (RAC) of the GFA towards raising the bar as far as the ‘knights of the whistle’ are concerned.

He said the new department will be manned by a Manager, who will be recruited before the start of the 2012/2013 Premier League, due to kick start on Sunday, October 7 at the various approved centres.

On the league, the GFA President announced that they are poised to become the top on the continent after being rated third on the continent by the International Football Federation of History and Statistics (IFFHS) recently behind Nigeria and Tunisia.

He also expressed his outfit’s commitment to the development of coaching assuring of regular courses to upgrade the knowledge of the tacticians.

The two-day GFA ordinary congress ended on Thursday, September 27 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.
