PPP seeking to create balance of power in Parliament

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) is seeking to create a balance of power in parliament by breaking the monopoly of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Legislature.

Consequently, it has targeted five parliamentary seats in the December polls and further aiming for a maximum of 50 seats in constituencies where it has comparative advantage across the country.

“We intend to create a balance of power in Parliament and we have targeted five seats we are confident we would win in this year’s election”, said Paa Kwesi Nduom, the presidential candidate of the party.

He was interacting with journalist last weekend at Galosuta in the Anlo constituency when he toured the Volta Region to interact and swear into office polling station executives of the party.

Dr Nduom said the PPP had targeted Central, Volta, Upper East, Upper West and the Western regions where the party stood a very good chance of electoral success.

He said the party was striving to win 50 parliamentary seats across the country, sounding upbeat about the PPP’s success in the December elections, considering the effort that has been put into its campaigns.

Dr Nduom said the PPP was hopeful of annexing three seats in the Central Region, declaring his home Constituency, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo as a “safe seat” and a “no go area” for other political parties because the people there had experienced him practically and knew what he stood for.

He said the party was confident of winning the Wa Central seat in the Upper West Region, where incumbent MP and the Deputy Majority leader, Mr Rashid Pelpuo and the People’s National Convention’s General Secretary, Mr Bernard Monah, are also contesting.

The PPP intends also to field a candidate in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency.

Dr Nduom said that no political party would win the December polls outright; saying the winner of the contest would be decided in a run-off.
