WANEP-Ghana trains women, youth in conflict handling mechanisms
The West African Network for PeaceBuilding (WANEP-Ghana), on Wednesday organized a two-day training workshop on peace building for more than 1000 women and youth in some coastal districts of the Western Region, in Takoradi.
This is to equip participants drawn from Shama, Ellembelle, Ahanta West, Jomoro and Nzema East areas with conflict management skills.
Mr. Justin Bayor, National Network Coordinator of WANEP, said that the training formed part of the Network’s Fostering Citizens Dialogue in Peace Building project.
He noted that women usually had the capacity to promote peace whilst the youth were main agents of trouble.
Mr Bayor said it was necessary to equip the two groups, particularly those in the Western Region, where oil has been discovered, with skills in conflict management.
Some of the participants promised to be ambassadors of peace building in their respective districts.
