Ghanaian authority believes tourism has potential to alleviate poverty

Mr. Micheal Kpingbi, Acting Western Regional Director, Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), said developing the tourism potentials of the Region could help in alleviating poverty  among the residents.

He said the Region was endowed with a lot of tourism sites and attractions which needed to be harnessed for the overall economic emancipation of the Region and its people.

Mr. Kpingbi said this when the Regional GTA visited the Aboadze Thermal Plant together with some  practitioners in the industry as part of activities marking this year’s World Tourism Day.

The National event to be celebrated at Akosombo on the theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Energy”, and would highlight the need for industry players to conserve energy in their day to day activities.

He said the Western Region was blessed with a lot of yet- to- be developed tourism sites and therefore entreated stakeholders to invest in that sector of the economy.

“Tourism can turn the fortunes of the people around even more than the oil, gold and other natural resources have”, he added.
