Ivory Coast says will reopen border with Ghana today

Following a two-week closure, Ivory Coast has decided to reopen its border with Ghana today October 8, 2012.

In a statement read on state TV late Sunday October 7, 2012 , the Ivorian government said both countries had reinforced security along the border “with the aim of stopping all incursions”.

“As a result President Alassane Ouattara decided that from Monday October 8, 2012 at seven in the morning the land and sea borders will reopen,” Ivorian Defence Minister Paul Koffi Koffi said on state TV.

Ivory Coast has already reopened its airspace to flights from Ghana.

The border was closed after series of deadly attacks on Ivorian officials said to be launched from Ghanaian territory.

The Ivorian government believes the attacks were masterminded by supporters of ex-President Laurent Gbagbo.
