Sanitation taskforce for Central Region launched
The Regional Manager Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mr John Sackey has stated that the astronomical sanitation problem facing the country was as a result of bad behavioral practices by many citizens across the nation.
He said practical steps must be made by Ghanaians towards changing their attitudes to sanitation issues to help prevent the outbreak of sanitation related ailments in the country.
Mr Sackey was speaking in Cape Coast during the launch of the Central Regional Sanitation Taskforce (CRST) Project which is expected to rid the Region of filth through intensive public education.
The project is in pursuance of President John Dramani Mahama’s “A CLEAN GHANA IS A BETTER GHANA” agenda which was part of his policy statement to Parliament recently.
The Regional Manager announced that a sanitation taskforce will soon be set up saying it will take the concerted efforts of all stakeholders to achieve that feat.
He urged all the people of the Central Region to join hands with the sanitation force to rid the region of filth for it and the entire country to be made clean and healthy for all.
Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, the Deputy Central Regional Minister, expressed concern that waste management which is a major component of environmental sanitation, had become “a monster that had aborted most efforts by city authorities, governments, and professionals alike”.
He commended the efforts of Zoomlion Ghana Limited in championing the cause to maintain clean and environmentally healthy communities nationwide by providing excellence sanitation services through the use of simple but modern technologies.
Mr Quansah thanked President Mahama for initiating the project and pledged the Regional Coordinating Council’s support to aid its success.
He said the taskforce to be instituted will help Zoom Alliance, Zoomlion and other stakeholders to perform the task ahead of them whilst the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Zoom Alliance will provide the needed logistics to effectively address this national menace.
Zoomlion Ghana Limited in collaboration with Zoom Alliance organized a cleanup exercise in Abura, a suburb of Cape Coast and its surrounding communities as part of the launch.
