Roadmap to return AfDB’s headquarters to Ivory Coast endorsed

The Governors Consultative Committee (GCC) of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on October 11, 2012 endorsed the transmission of the roadmap for the Bank’s return to its headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The GCC meeting took place in Tokyo on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank annual meetings.

At the 2012 Annual Meetings in Arusha, Tanzania, the Board of Governors requested the Bank’s management to prepare “a roadmap for an orderly and phased return, taking into consideration the stability of the institution and the well-being of staff members, the financial implications of the return as well as the risks and the measures to mitigate such risks.”

The AfDB Group moved its operations to the Temporary Relocation Agency (TRA) in Tunis in March 2003 following the crisis in Côte d’Ivoire.

Meanwhile, the Banks’ Board of Governors is said to consider the roadmap during the AfDB’s Annual Meetings to be held in Marrakech, Morocco, in May 2013.
