Minister apologizes for delays in Tarkwa-Ayanfuri road project
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Joe Kwashie Gidisu has apologized to the people of Tarkwa and its surrounding communities for delays in the construction of the road from Tarkwa to Ayanfuri in the Western region.
He said sourcing for suitable material for the project has caused delays in the project and not funding. According to the Minister, the initial quarry identified for chippings for the project was noted by expects not to be appropriate for construction of that road.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and the National Democratic Congress party faithful of Tarkwa Nsueam municipality at Dompim before the arrival of the President, John Dramani Mahama from Prestea on his campaign tour to the Western region on Sunday, Mr. Gidisu explained that the contractor has presently located a suitable area at Obuasi to acquire the quarry added that his outfit has completed the necessary agreement on it to ensure that they speed up work on the project.
The Minister emphasized that considering the cracks and pots holes that the Agona to Tarkwa road is developing after few years of construction his ministry has decided to go extra mile on every road project across the country to ensure that quality materials are used.
Mr. Gidisu appealed to travelers and drivers who ply the Tarkwa to Ayanfuri road that the Ministry of Roads and Highways will ensure that by October 2013 works on the road network will be completed.
He said major roads in Tarkwa Nsueam such as Benso-Amantin, Tarkwa Banso and Domeabra-Aiyinase has been captured by his ministry for immediate construction works to begin.
