Second national CSR confab opens November 6
The second annual national Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) conference will take place in Accra from November 6-7, 2012.
The conference, which will be under the chairmanship of Nana Dr. S.K.B Asante, Former President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and Omanhene of Asokore, is organised by CSR Foundation Ghana in partnership with UN Global Network Ghana.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Mainstreaming Emerging Issues of Corporate Social Responsibility into Organisation Behaviour in Ghana”.
The conference also aims at having a discussion on ways to encourage peaceful political participation as a concomitant to sustainable development.
Other topics to be discussed include an overview of CSR Theory and Practice in Ghana, The Role and Responsibilities of Political Parties towards Sustainable Governance and Sustainable Development, Mainstreaming Human Rights Issues into CSR Practice in Ghana, Global Best Practices in CSR and the Ghanaian Experience, among others.
Officials say speakers for the conference have been chosen carefully from local as well as international experts.
“Ms Helle Johansen Private Sector Advisor at the United Nations Development Programme Nordic Office would be visiting as a major speaker at the conference. The keynote speaker is Mr. Herbert Morrison President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce,” Byron Nana Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of CSR Foundation Ghana said in a press statement.
Other speakers include Professor Ken Attafua, Director of the William Ofori Atta Institute of Integrity, Central University, Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso, Senior Researcher, Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy.
The rest are Dr. Dan Ofori, Coordinator, Centre for Corporate Responsibility, University of Ghana Business School, Dr. Ayesha Hakeem, Managing Director, African Connections Ghana, Mr. Kweku Rockson, Member of the Board of Trustees, CSR Foundation Ghana and Mr. Desmond Appiah, Executive Director, Sustainable Ghana.
The annual national CSR conference was instituted by CSR Foundation Ghana in 2011. This was based on the appreciation that globally, CSR has been accepted not only as an important academic concept but also as a vital partnership tool which enhances corporate credibility and most importantly promotes community development and ultimately can be maximised in fulfilment of the development aspirations of countries.
