Tarkwa suffers 30 cholera cases in one week
The Tarkwa Government Hospital in the Western Region, within a week, has recorded 30 cases of cholera in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.
Dr. Ebenezer Acquah, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, who disclosed this to the media on Thursday, said though no death had been recorded, it was important for people to be careful of what they consume.
Mr Acquah said most of the cholera cases reported to the hospital were from communities such as Cyanide, Nkamponase, Bankyim, Nzemaline, Esuoso and some areas around Tarkwa.
A visit to the Male and Female Medical Wards showed the cholera patients on admission but due to their numbers, hospital authorities are forced to discharge some of them earlier than usual because of inadequate space.
Mr Acquah said to prevent the disease from spreading, those living around Tarkwa Nsueam and its surrounding communities should cultivate the habit of washing their hands with soap under running water after visiting the toilet, eat warm foods and drink uncontaminated water.
