Mauritania beats Ghana as country with fastest Internet in Africa
Latest statistics published on Ookla’s NetIndex shows that Mauritania has the fastest Internet speed in Africa, beating Ghana and others.
Mauritania has Internet speed of 25.40 Mbps.
The country ranks in 15th place in the world. According to the stats, the results were obtained by analyzing test data between September 30, 2012 and November 19, 2012. Tests from 2,711 unique IPs have been taken in Mauritania and of 7,967 total tests, 334 are being used for the current Index, it said.
Ghana ranked first in Africa with the highest Internet speed, according to stats released March 5, 2012, placing 73rd globally with an average broadband speed of 5.36 Mbps.
But on the current rankings, Ghana stands at the 8th position in Africa and 99th in the world with a download speed of 4.22Mbps.
Ghana’s results were obtained by analyzing test data between October 21, 2012 and November 19, 2012. Tests from 46,889 unique IPs have been taken and of 232,075 total tests, 12,643 are being used for the current Index, it said.
Rwanda is second in Africa with a download speed of 6.60Mbps and 74th in the world, followed at 3rd position in Africa by Libya with a global ranking of 83rd. The country’s download speed is 5.05Mbps.
Rwanda’s results were obtained by analyzing test data between October 21, 2012 and November 19, 2012. Tests from 3,317 unique IPs have been taken in this country and of 30,420 total tests, 2,465 are being used for the current Index, the publishers noted.
According to the current rankings, Hong Kong is number one in the world with a speed of 42.29 Mbps.
Meanwhile, the statistics indicate the following ISPs in Ghana in order of the fastest Internet speed to the lowest. Zain Communications Ltd, 12.46 Mbps; Ghana Telecom, 4.84 Mbps; Scancom Ltd, 4.43 Mbps; Africa Online Ghana Ltd, 2.98 Mbps; Zipnet/Broadband Home Ltd, 2.10 Mbps; GS Telecom, 1.29 Mbps; GLO Mobile Ghana Ltd., 1.03 Mbps; Oxieparabolen AB, 0.60 Mbps.
