COTVET receives GH¢182.5m value of proposals for Skills Development Fund
The Skills Development Fund says it expects to make known the outcomes of the evaluation for all eligible proposals to COTVET under the second call by end November.
Government of Ghana has received financial support of up to GH¢114 million from the World Bank and Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) towards the setting up and implementation of a Skills Development Fund (SDF).
The five-year Fund (2011-2015) is an initiative of the Government of Ghana and managed by the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET).
Between August and September 2012, the Fund invited applications from small, medium and large scale industries, science, technology and research institutions as part of its Second Call for proposals.
In a media brief to shed more light on the on-going grant making processes, Mr Ato Simpson, the Grant Specialist of the SDF, said the evaluation of proposals received under the Second Call of the SDF was underway.
He said a total of about 428 proposals have so far been processed by the SDF for evaluation.
It is expected that, by the end of November, the outcomes of evaluation for all eligible proposals submitted to COTVET under the Second Call should be made known to applicants.
Under the Second Call for proposals, the SDF received applications from small, medium and large scale industries in the areas of horticulture, livestock, agro processing, aquaculture, media, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), oil and gas, cosmetics, textiles and garments, construction, welding and fabrication, mining, furniture, forestry and the hospitality industries among others.
Mr Simpson, however, noted that, even though all proposals received had a total value of GH¢182.5 million, the SDF projects to award grant totaling GH¢23 million under the 2nd Call which spans till the end of 2012.
To facilitate the convenient tracking of the grant applications, SDF has sent letters to applicants with a tracking code to be used in monitoring the progress of their applications on the SDF webpage.
