Ghana amputee players want association chairman out

The playing body of the national amputee football team, Black Challenge, want their Chairman Francis Adjetey Sowah out of the Association for mismanagement of funds under his stewardship.

The players claim Sowah, Chairman of the Ghana Amputee Football Federation (GAFF) has failed to account for funds during his reign as head of the Association and expect him to resign to make way for investigations.

In a three-page petition addressed to President John Dramani Mahama and signed by Francis Antwi-Darkwah, Secretary of the playing body, said the team have yet to benefit from cash donations presented them in their build up to major competitions since 2010.

Sowah, also President of the Amputee Football Federation of Africa (AFFA) is also being accused of running a one-man show and displaying gross disrespect towards members of the Black Challenge.

“Our President (Francis Adjetey Sowa)  is using the national amputee team like his own business in which he does not account to anybody.

“On a more serious note, Mr Francis Adjetey Sowah does not respect anybody within the management and the playing body.”

After enumerating countless accusations of financial impropriety on their leader, Antwi- Darkwa has called on Sowah to call time of his position.

“We (playing body) deem it fit to call on the President of the Ghana Amputee Football Federation to resign from his position for further investigation, because there is no transparency in his dealing.

The players also maintained that “Mr Adjetey Sowah even compared us to his daughter, which is absolutely unacceptable. We think he has insulted our intelligence and there is no way we can work with him again, because the respect and trust in him has all vanished as President of the team.”

The players also cried out that they have yet to receive their bonuses after participations in the 2011 Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football and the recent World Amputee Football Championship in Kalinsgrad, Russia, where they placed sixth.

Meanwhile, attempts to reach Sowah for his reaction proved fruitless.
