Customs boss recommends para-military training for government officials
Major-General Carl Modey, Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, has suggested that key government officials, including Ministers of state should be made to under go para-military training.
He said besides the benefits of physical fitness, military training would give the officials mental agility, make them disciplined and work as a team.
Major-Gen. Modey was addressing the inaugural parade of the 100 novelty customs cadet corps for the Agotime Senior High School, at the Customs Academy and Training School, at Agortime-Kpetoe on Friday.
He told the cadet corps that management of Customs approved of the idea mooted about a year ago because it could inculcate “discipline, morality, resilience, love for one’s nation and related virtues into the beneficiaries”.
Major-Gen. Modey observed that military and para-military training could inculcate virtues into the youth.
He said that the approval of subsequent requests for such training programmes would depend on the performance of the pioneering AGOSEC cadet corps.
Major Gen. Modey asked members of the cadet corps to comport themselves, and educate their peers and parents to avoid unpatriotic acts such as smuggling, and to expose those who would engage in it.
He congratulated the corps for their immaculate performance, which included displays, slow and quick march.
Dogbeda Kossi Achitey was the over-all-best cadet, Mavis Aboedeke, Parade Commander, best in drill, and Daniel Agbamavi, most consistent and selfless cadet.
